What to wear for your engagement session!

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

One of the most frequent questions I get from bride and groom's to be is: "what should we wear for our engagement session?"

There are so many options out there, so many Pinterest and Instagram inspiration pictures, it can be hard to figure out what style you want to go with. But, it's really pretty simple.

Wear something that is true to you.

That's it. If you're unsure about it, or only wearing it because it's "on trend", you won't be comfortable and you probably will be thinking about your outfit and making adjustments more than focusing on the experience.

With that said, there are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing your outfit!

  1. COLORS. Think neutral and simple. Earthy tones show up in photos so well and won't disappoint. Bright colors can sometimes reflect onto your skin causing an unnatural glow. Who wants that?

  2. PATTERNS. Less is more. Loud prints can be distracting and take away from what's happening in the moment. Minimal prints, or no prints, are the way to go.

  3. ACCESSORIZE. Adding one or two statement accessories can add so much more personality to your photos. Maybe a super cute pair of heels, or a leather or denim jacket, or a unique piece of jewelry. Bring some accessories that compliment your outfit and showcase your personality in a subtle way. Trust me, it will make a huge difference!

  4. HAIR & MAKEUP. It might feel like you're being "extra", but getting your hair and/or makeup professionally done for your session will give you so much confidence going into your session, and plus it's just fun to be pampered! This is a once in a lifetime event. Enjoy it!

  5. DUFFEL BAG. Bring a bag! Most engagement sessions consist of at least 2 outfits, so you're going to need something to carry your extra stuff in. (EXTRA TIP: Put your phone, keys, wallet and hair tie in your duffel bag before your session starts! No one wants a phone or hair tie to steal the show in your photos)

To sum it all up, don't overthink it. Wear a nice, neat and simple outfit that you are comfortable in. Then add one or two cool accessories and voilà, you are ready!
